Teaching has been considered as a noble profession in our country. Teachers are known as transmitters, inspirers and promoters of man’s eternal quest for knowledge. Teachers have gained high place and reputation in the society due to those inborn teachers of ancient times that sacrificed their life for teaching. Initially only those persons were used to accepted or permitted for teaching who had inherent quality to become an effective teacher. Afterwards expansion of school system demand rose for good teachers and system of teacher training came in to existence. Those are trained in teaching skills, who are desirous to enter in the teaching profession with perfection through teacher training. This trend is prevailing with the rapid expansion in the field of teacher education in different dimensions to produce effective teachers.
Preparation of teachers with high level quality is the need of the hour along with providing the access of education to one and all irrespective of the level. In this context, realizing the need of providing quality education to the students of the backward region, The Department of Education was established in 1968 (As College of Education) with the aim of promoting quality teacher education among prospective women teachers to meet the needs and demands of present era. The department offers six courses in education: Diploma in Education (D.Ed.), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), M.A. (Education), Master of Education (M.Ed.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Since education is evolutionary in nature, the department aspires to focus on infusing and embarking conceptual and executional changes in the broader educational context. The orientation of the department originates from and firmly grounds in the synthesis of the various schools of thought along with insistence on tapping the contemporary changes for marking real impact in the field. The courses on offer and the pedagogy are carefully geared up to suit highly competitive and fast-growing knowledge society. They are given adequate space for sports and other extra-curricular activities. The department, ever since its inception has stressed on producing teachers of the highest quality and standards. Boasting of 100% results, the department emphasizes on personality development, honing of communication skills and professional efficiency of the learners as well as the teachers. The objective sought is to identify the potential of the learners and translate it into performance and achievements for them.The department, as a developing hub of excellence, focuses at drawing out the best of the student and unfolding of their talents for facilitating their emergence as educational expert capable in addressing quality of education across the globe. The department endeavours to achieve excellence by facilitating quality based education and research for students and enabling them to acquire the skills that are required in the present period of globalization. It aims to provide a deep insight of life skills to address the global needs of 21st century. The department is committed to carry out multidisciplinary research in the field of educational theory, curriculum and practice to cater the needs of the digital world.

There are several labs for different academic activities in Department of Education viz. Psychology Lab, Educational Technology Lab, Science Lab, Social Studies Lab, Work Experience Lab, Instructional Technology lab, Research Lab and Computer Lab. These labs are fully equipped with all the latest educational equipments/apparatus for use of the students in their day to day academic activities. Computer Lab is air conditioned and well equipped with internet facilities.
Department of Education has a separate Seminar Hall for the students being the hub academic co-curricular activities for organizing Workshops, Seminars, Conferences, Extension Lectures and cultural activities. Seminar Hall is well equipped with all modern gadgets. It has capacity of 200 seats.
High speed internet and e- learning facility is provided to students throughout the institution premises for performing their academic and research work via BSNL Fiber Wifi Leaseline.
In this age of information, the library services must be the heart of any institution. The Library (Learning and Resource Centre) plays a vital role in providing & nurturing knowledge and aiding in learning activities. The Primary purpose of the library is to support teaching, research, academic programmes. Department of Education has a vast and spacious library having seating capacity of 100 students. The library has 12666 Books on different subjects, 23 Educational Journals, 27 Magazines and 11 Newspapers, are subscribed by the institute.
The First Aid-room has all the necessary first-aid kit for giving immediate first-Aid treatment to sick and needy students and faculty members. The students with serious illness are immediately taken to nearby hospitals and parents are informed immediately.
