The Department of Social Work was established in September 2008 with an objective to train the prospective social workers for social outreach skills. The curriculum is designed to teach, train and prepare human resources with scientific knowledge, inculcate human concerns and democratic values. Vision of the department is to develop human resource for social work practice to Strive for creation of just and equal society which ensures freedom from all forms of oppressions and exploitation.  Mission of the Department is to prepare student for competent and effective professional social work practice with diverse range of individuals groups and communities by using a holistic knowledge base that serves as the foundation for the generalist social work practice.  Capacity building of the students is being done by developing their knowledge skills, attitudes and values appropriate to the practices of social work profession.  In addition to this, students are trained to develop critical thinking and ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice of social work.  The programme is aimed at providing socially relevant social work training to the students so that they respond to the field requirements keeping in tune with the contemporary social realities.   

Department of Social work equipped with good infrastructure and digital technology for effective teaching learning facility. Department has Library with the variety of books and Journals that are easily accessible for the benefit of the students as well as the faculty members. The Departmental library is enriched with hundreds of books, national & international journals. The Department has a well-equipped computer Lab with internet facility to be used for training, research and allied activities. The Department has a fully air-conditioned conference hall used for extension lectures, workshops, seminars, group conferences and group discussions etc. The teaching and training is provided through smart class room teaching and intensive social work practicum training through community field work, agency based field work, seminars and discussions, study tour, summer placement, rural camp, individual conference, group conference and block placements so as to enable students to develop critical thinking and ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practice of Social Work. Smart class room is well equipped with internet facility, projector, display screen and sitting capacity of more than sixty students. Department offers field work practicum in rural community and various welfare organizations so that students can learn social realities, social problems, resources and role of welfare department in providing solutions and services to the community people. Apart from this Department has established community resource centers in all five adopted village with the aim to provide care and services on rural development, schemes, health, hygiene and education of women, girls, children and other community people. Besides academic rigor, the students are given adequate opportunity to participate in sports events, cultural activities, seminars, conferences and workshops organized by department and other department/institutes of the University. The Department also guides, trains and assists its students for job placement in the different government and non-government organizations, institutes and projects.
