Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences. Initially, two year postgraduate programme in Mathematics was started with an intake of 30 students.  Since its inception, multiple efforts are underway to strengthen the department and later on in 2019 two new postgraduate programmes viz. Physics and Chemistry were also introduced. Both the programme are tailored to focus on different sub-disciplines and offers industry-oriented courses with a capacity of 30 students. The department also imparts Environmental Sciences education to students across university as it is mandated for achieving sustainable development goals in 21st century. All academic programmes are designed and administered, with adequate depth and width within the extended views of Science and Technology. The department has well equipped computing, physics and chemistry labs based upon the latest technologies pertaining to different sectors. These facilities are also made accessible to other departments of the University and department also shares various central facilities of University.

Mathematics discipline at department of Basic and Applied Sciences is among the pioneer centers that build a broad-based theoretical background of Mathematical Sciences and practical training in computing, numerical methods, and mathematical modeling. The chemistry discipline is tailored to focus on different sub-disciplines and the department offers industry-oriented specialization courses like inorganic chemistry with a capacity of 30 students. The department also proposed organic and physical specialization courses before senate of the University and approval for the same is underway. In Physics discipline, department offers four specialization courses viz. condensed matter physics, radiation physics, computational physics, and electronics for PG course. The vision behind the curriculum of Physics is not only to transform young people to competent and motivated professionals but also to contribute to the development of the nation through research, technology, consultancy, and training.

Alumni of department are pursuing higher education as well as successful careers in Research and Development, software industries, financial institutions to name only a few. The department has innovative, multi-disciplinary, research-based group of faculties and non-teaching staff that develops scientific temperament and procedures to educate the next generation students.
